Comment le peuple juif fut inventé : De la Bible au sionisme, par Shlomo Sand

C'est la seconde fois que je présente ce livre, qui sort enfin en France et qui est un Best Seller en Israel en ce moment.
Ce "nouvel historien" d'Israel, déconstruit le mythe du Peuple-race Juif. C'est à méditer sur tous les autres mythes fondateurs de nations ou Peuples (les Gaulois, les Teutons, la Oumma Arabe etc...)

Présentation de l'éditeur
Quand le peuple juif fut-il créé ? Est-ce il y a quatre mille ans, ou bien sous la plume d'historiens juifs du XIXe siècle qui ont reconstitué rétrospectivement un peuple imaginé afin de façonner une nation future ? Dans le sillage de la " contre-histoire " née en Israël dans les années 1990, Shlomo Sand nous entraîne dans une plongée à travers l'histoire " de longue durée " des juifs. Les habitants de la Judée furent-ils exilés après la destruction du Second Temple, en l'an 70 de l'ère chrétienne, ou bien s'agit-il ici d'un mythe chrétien qui aurait infiltré la tradition juive ? Et, si les paysans des temps anciens n'ont pas été exilés, que sont-ils devenus ? L'auteur montre surtout comment, à partir du XIXe siècle, le temps biblique a commencé à être considéré par les premiers sionistes comme le temps historique, celui de la naissance d'une nation. Ce détour par le passé conduit l'historien à un questionnement beaucoup plus contemporain : à l'heure où certains biologistes israéliens cherchent encore à démontrer que les juifs forment un peuple doté d'un ADN spécifique, que cache aujourd'hui le concept d'" Etat juif ", et pourquoi cette entité n'a-t-elle pas réussi jusqu'à maintenant à se constituer en une république appartenant à l'ensemble de ses citoyens, quelle que soit leur religion ? En dénonçant cette dérogation profonde au principe sur lequel se fonde toute démocratie moderne, Shlomo Sand délaisse le débat historiographique pour proposer une critique de la politique identitaire de son pays. Construit sur une analyse d'une grande originalité et pleine d'audace, cet ouvrage foisonnant aborde des questions qui touchent autant à l'origine historique des juifs qu'au statut civique des Israéliens. Paru au printemps 2008 en Israël, il y est très rapidement devenu un best-seller et donne encore lieu à des débats orageux.

Biographie de l'auteur
Né en 1946, Shlomo Sand a fait ses études d'histoire à l'université de Tel-Aviv et à l'École des hautes études en sciences sociales à Paris. Depuis 1985, il enseigne l'histoire contemporaine à l'université de Tel-Aviv. Les Mots et la terre (Fayard, 2006) est son dernier ouvrage publié en français.

Shoah on Gaza!

"Si les tirs de Qassam continuent de s’intensifier, [les Palestiniens] s’attireront sur eux une Shoah.» Matan Vilnaï, le vice-ministre travailliste de la Défense, a eu beau plaider la maladresse verbale, cette déclaration faite vendredi sur une grande radio israélienne lui vaut des condamnations des deux côtés de la ligne verte. «Il faut vraiment être un idiot fini - pardon pour le manque de politesse - pour offrir aux Palestiniens une telle munition», déplore Ben-Dror Yémini dans Maariv. De fait, Mahmoud Abbas a saisi la balle au bond en déclarant que l’offensive israélienne à Gaza était «pire qu’un holocauste». Pour sa défense, Matan Vilnaï explique qu’en hébreu l’emploi du terme «Shoah» ne se limite pas à la tragédie nazie et signifie «catastrophe» d’une manière générale.

Dimanche, un éditorialiste de Haaretz calculait qu’en une après-midi Tsahal avait tué plus de Palestiniens que les Qassam n’avaient tué d’Israéliens en sept ans((12 victimes depuis 2001). En deux ans, l’armée israélienne a tué près de mille habitants de Gaza, dont la moitié de paramilitaires et la moitié de civils. On peut imaginer, écrivait le quotidien israélien, l’outrage mondial si les Palestiniens avaient fait la même chose, avec le même pourcentage.

Selon Bernard Guetta, le 3 mars sur France inter: "(...) en Israël on y envisage désormais, dit-on de très bonne source, de répondre à tout nouvel obus par des bombardements, non plus ciblés mais « indiscriminés », du km2 entourant le point de lancement ou, même, de faire pénétrer l’armée à Gaza, pour une opération de démantèlement des réseaux militaires du Hamas qui pourrait durer « de deux à trois mois ».

Quand on connait la densité de population (+de 1000 ha au km2) de Gaza, on imagine le massacre envisagé...

Beaucoup de sites et de pétitions pour dénoncer la prison à ciel ouvert qu'est Gaza.
En voici un exemple de l'association américaine Brit Tzedek v’Shalom (the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace is to educate and mobilize American Jews in support of a negotiated two-state resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict).

This week, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians flooded out of Gaza through the recently breached border crossing with Egypt in order to purchase food, medicine, cement, mattresses, and household supplies. Last week, over two hundred Qassam rockets were launched by Palestinian militants into Sderot and elsewhere in Israel's northern Negev. In response, Israel sealed Gaza's borders, blocking access by its population to essential fuel and humanitarian supplies.

This escalation of violence and punishment must end, and for that to happen, the U.S. must intervene. Please contact President Bush today to demand urgent U.S. action to encourage an Israel-Hamas ceasefire and the reopening of border crossings into Gaza to allow for the regular transport of fuel and humanitarian supplies!

Another obstacle to Zionism

The time has come to examine this myth in light of the current reality between the sea and the Jordan River, at the end of 40 years of settlement. In the state's 60th year, it is no longer possible to hold onto the argument that in 1948, too, we stole Arab lands. That chapter of the Zionist struggle ended on May 15, 1948. The Declaration of Independence laid the moral foundations for the state of the Jews - the realization of the Zionist vision.
The constitutive Zionist document guarantees that this state will provide "complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants." This declaration means that if the territories are annexed, Israel is obligated to grant the rights of citizenship to Palestinians as well, including the right to vote and to be voted into the Knesset. Within the Green Line, the pre-1967 borders, Jews constitute a solid majority (79 percent). According to demographic forecasts, the separation of Israel and the territories would guarantee that in 2020, too, the Jews will retain their relative advantage. But annexation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem - whether officially or de facto - makes the territory between the sea and the Jordan River a binational state even now (54 percent Jews, 46 percent non-Jews).
The Zionist leadership declared that the State of Israel "will be based on freedom, justice and peace." The settlement in the heart of the territories has for 40 years denied freedom to millions of people, including the freedom of movement. What connection is there between the expropriation of "state lands" or the takeover of private lands, on the one hand, and the creation of justice and peace, on the other? How does the enormous growth in the number of settlers since the signing of the Oslo Accords (from 100,000 in 1993 to 270,000 today) square with the 60-year-old declaration, "We extend our hand to all neighboring states and their peoples in an offer of peace and good neighborliness."?

Were it not for its fear of the settlers, Israel would not be ignoring the extended hand of the Arab League, which offers peace and good neighborliness within the June 4, 1967, borders. And what is the contribution of the settlements to Israel's international standing, in keeping with the declaration, "We appeal to the United Nations to assist the Jewish people in the building-up of its State and to receive the State of Israel into the comity of nations"? The settlements and the course of the separation fence, which was tailored to suit their needs, have drawn the largest number of UN condemnations and international protests against Israel(...).
Apart from talking, what is Olmert doing to remove the obstacle from the path of Zionism?

A la fin de 1947, la Palestine compte près de 2 millions d’habitants : un tiers de Juifs, deux tiers d’Arabes. La résolution 181 des Nations unies décide sa partition en deux Etats : l’un doit être presque exclusivement peuplé d’Arabes ; dans l’autre, les Juifs seraient légèrement majoritaires.
Un an plus tard, c’est un Etat à très forte majorité juive, Israël, qui occupe 78 % de la Palestine. Plus de 500 villages ont été rasés, de nombreuses villes ont presque entièrement perdu leur population arabe. Et 800 000 Arabes palestiniens originaires des territoires qui font désormais partie d’Israël peuplent des camps de réfugiés hors de ses frontières.
